Navaratri, the festival of nine nights celebrated in India is finally here. A special festival, considered auspicious by all Indians, Navratri commemorates the devotion to goddess Durga (the Hindu Goddess of Power known as divine shakti). The term Navratri is a Sanskrit word. ‘Nav’ means nine and ‘Ratri’ stands for night. Navaratri is celebrated with great zeal, fervor and enthusiasm all over the country. It is celebrated twice a year over a period of nine nights and 10 days. It is followed by Vijaya Dashmi (Dussehra) on the 10th day. Its dates are determined according to the lunar calendar.
